Iara

Finalmente pude consertar meu computador e terminar um trabalho que eu tinha começado há vários dias. Resolvi desenhar uma sereia, mas como já tem tantas delas por aí, resolvi fazer uma sereia de rio. Em algumas lendas ela tem cabelo verde, mas achei que se colocasse cabelo verde não ficaria com cara de índia. Então fiz cabelo preto mesmo. A paisagem ficou meio pobre, mas não queria que desviasse a atenção da sereia em si.

My computer is finally fixed, then I could finish my drawing. I decided to draw a mermaid, but there a lot of this type of drawing. Thus, I drew a river mermaid.

Iara, also spelled Uira or Yara, is the name of a figure from Brazilian mythology. She was a beautiful young woman with a fish tail who would sit on a rock by the river combing her hair or dozing under the sun. When she felt a man around she would start to sing gently to lure him. Once under the spell of the Iara a man would leave anything to live with her under water for ever.
